Founded in Beijing in 2013, Drawing Architecture Studio is dedicated to the practice of architectural drawing, architectural design, and urban research. The studio explores the possibilities of drawing, space, and urban studies through unique approaches. Using engineering drawing software as a tool, they draw inspiration from architecture, art, popular culture, and everyday life to create complex and large scale urban landscape images. They also treat infinite vector images as a form of architectural material, exploring multiple pathways through which virtual imagery returns to the physical world and challenging the boundaries between image and space. The studio considers urban research as an open framework for experience and storytelling, experimenting across a range of media including architectural models, art installations, comics, and books.
Works by Drawing Architecture Studio have been exhibited at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, the Chicago Architecture Biennial, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Shenzhen/Hong Kong), among others. Their works are held in the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, M+ Museum in Hong Kong, the White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney, the Macau Museum of Art, and the Pingshan Art Museum in Shenzhen. Their accolades include the DAM Architectural Book Award in 2021, the WAF Architectural Drawing Prize in 2018, the RIBA Architectural Painting Award in 2016, and the “Most Beautiful Books of China” award in 2013.
