The Phenakistoscope, an early optical animation device invented in the 19th century, comprises a disc painted with continuously decomposed motion depictions. As the disc spins and the painted figures swiftly flicker through a narrow slit, an animated illusion of motion materializes.

The Phenakistoscope Art Co-creation Workshop serves as the core activity of the MoCA's "After 8:30 P.M.: Community Art Portrait Project." It invites local residents to extract inspiration from their leisure moments after 8:30 P.M., transforming these snapshots of daily life into visual art forms. By employing techniques of collage and painting, these scenes are artistically crafted into unique Phenakistoscope animations. As the fragmented visuals commence their rotation, the principles of optics intertwine the shots to narrate a moving story, crafting a "documentary of time" that belongs to the community uniquely.
